1. ACCESS TO COMPUTING FACILITIES
1.1 The college computing facilities are available for student use through the Flexible Learning Centre or the college computing classrooms. [glow=red,2,300]Users shall NOT modify, alter, damage, or destroy any computer equipment provided by the college unless authorized to do so by College staff member.[/glow]
1.2 Users shall NOT connect any item of computing equipment to or install any software on any computer equipment of the college unless permitted to do so by the college.
1.3 Users shall NOT use any software, which has been unlawfully obtained, or deliberately interfere with the reasonable use by any other person of the Internet or any computer hardware or software.
1.4 A member of college staff may examine any data stored on or any software used in connection with all College computers for the purpose of ensuring that the use of that computer complies with the conditions imposed for its use by the college.
2. INTERNET ACCESS & PROPER USE
2.1 Students enrolled in courses that require Internet access for scheduled classes shall have the first 50 Megabytes free. Excessive Internet usage over 50 Megabytes in one semester will incur an additional Computer Internet service fee to reinstate Internet access.
2.2 A student requiring Internet access outside normal class time can gain 24-hour Internet access in the Ciba tek Centre located in the Learning Resource Centre, by paying both Ciba tek centre membership fee and up-front Internet Service fee. Excessive Internet usage over 50 Megabytes in one semester will incur an additional fee to reinstate Internet access.
2.3 Authorisation for users to access the colleges computing facilities outside the Flexible Learning Centre is provided by enrolment in a college course in which the computers are used. The authorisation applies only during scheduled classes of the course. Access to these facilities at other times may be permitted to authorised users at the discretion of lecturing staff.
2.4 Publications dealing with pornography or extreme violence are not permitted at the college. Internet is not to be used to access unacceptable material.
2.5 Information published on the Internet may be inaccurate or may misrepresent a person or situation. Care must be taken in the use of this information.
2.6 The copying and/or redistributing of a person's work without his or her permission is an infringement of copyright. A person's work should not be used without correct acknowledgement.
2.7 Users must be respectful, accurate and use appropriate written expression, such as would be acceptable in a written college assignment, in all communication with others. Improper use may constitute an offence under the Crimes Act (Commonwealth).
2.8 Users must abide by the generally accepted rules of network etiquette, including:
2.8.1.1 Be polite and do not be abusive of others.
2.8.1.2 Do not swear, use vulgar or inappropriate language.
2.8.1.3 Do not engage in illegal activities.
2.8.1.4 Do not reveal your personal address or phone number.
2.8.1.5 Remember that electronic mail is not private and that any person using the Internet can have access to all email. Secrecy and security of messages can not be assumed and any messages relating to or in furtherance of illegal activities may be reported to the authorities.
2.9 Breach of conditions in this agreement will result in suspension of use of the Internet. At the discretion of the Managing Director a period of up to 10 weeks may be incurred. Instances thereafter shall result in all Internet access discontinued on a permanent basis.
2.10 The Internet Service Provider (ISP) may limit access to the Internet at his/her discretion.
2.11 The college gives no warranties of any kind, in respect of the Internet Service provided and accepts no liability or responsibility for any loss, injury, damage, cost or expenses suffered or incurred by users, including (without limitation) loss of data, delays, non-deliveries, mis-deliveries or service interruption whether resulting from service faults or defects or the negligence, error or omission of any person or body.
3. RESPONSIBILITIES OF USERS
3.1 Computing facilities at Central West College of TAFE are primarily set up for educational related activities and research. Users Internet accounts are not to be used to search for material, which is unrelated to the educational ethos of the college.
3.2 DO NOT allow others to access or use your account. Users are responsible for all activity initiated on or from Institute computers from their accounts, unless there is clear evidence that another person has gained access without the user's assistance.
3.3 Users MUST set secure passwords for their accounts, keep their passwords secret and are advised to change them regularly.
3.4 Users must obey directions contained in all official Central West College notices posted in public areas including Flexible Learning Centre & classrooms.
3.5 Users must respect the privacy of others. The ability to read or modify a file belonging to another user does not imply permission to do so. Users must not read or alter files belonging to others, without their permission.
3.6 Users must not create, copy, download, store, transmit or execute illegal or harmful software on college computers. This includes unauthorised copies of copyright software, as well as viruses.
3.7 Users must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to computers or other equipment in or outside the college. The ability to gain access does not imply any right to do so, and users must not connect to any system without proper authorisation from the owners of the system.

Central West College reserves the right to log and/or monitor any and all user operations.
